Why I’m Running for Re-Election: Part 1
Posted on Thursday, August 26, 2021
One of the biggest frustrations of serving on the Apex Town Council is the slow pace of change. A great example is the rapid population growth…at the time I was elected in 2017 our population was 50,000 but new residential developments for 20,000 more people had already been approved. Nearly all of the growth that’s occurred during my four years on the Apex Town Council has been with those previously-approved developments. The good news is that the approval rate for new residential developments has slowed since the 2015-2016 peak, and the quality of those approved developments has improved. These higher quality developments have better buffers, improved walkability, greater tree preservation, solar/energy efficiency features, and more downstairs master bedrooms to allow occupants to age in place. I’m running for re-election to see the progress that we’ve made on new residential developments come to reality, and to continue improving how we grow as a Town going forward.
